Chessguiden
The idea behind the guide was a dynamic and choice driven "tutorial", where the user would make simple choices and end up with a payment plan that would fit her the best. The guide features a person who will inform you along the way, and a subtitle system for those that can't or won't hear the sound.
From a design perspective, the challenge was to make it simple to navigate while displaying all the necessary information on screen. There is a "log" of what has already been said by the guide on the right hand side, and on the left you will see a dynamic log of the choices you've taken up to that point as a checklist. This also serves as a checklist of features when you reach the end of the guide and are presented with a plan.
The application was programmed using ActionScript 3. To make the experience as fluid as possible, I had to write a set of custom classes for the preloading of the video. The video is divided into smaller assets, and while one part is playing another is being preloaded in the background. This also means the initial waiting time for the application to start is kept to a minimum.
On this project I was both the developer and the designer, while the video recording and digital retouch was done in-house at the Oktan group. Chess Communication is a Norwegian mobile virtual network operator.
